All across the United States, a growing number of local governments and organizations established to promote their communities are rapidly turning to anything and everything mobile to help drive more foot traffic and sales to small businesses in those particular localities.
In Evanston, Illinois ? a suburban municipality roughly ten miles north of downtown Chicago ? mobile marketing is in the process of becoming a mainstay, thanks to the effort spearheaded by Downtown Evanston, a small non-profit organization that provides marketing and management services to the downtown Evanston, Illinois district.
The organization is comprised of downtown Evanston commercial and residential property and business owners established ?to market, maintain, develop, and improve the vitality of the local economy and quality of life.?
Late last week, it was announced that Downtown Evanston and several Northwestern University students have teamed up to push a new mobile app that the partners hope will increase the exposure of small businesses in the Evanston community. According to the Evanston Patch:
Within a week, shoppers strolling the streets of downtown Evanston will be able to find, sort and use digital coupons for nearby businesses at the push of a button thanks to a soon-to-be-launched smart phone application.
?We?re really excited about it,? says Carolyn Dellutri, executive director of Downtown Evanston, ?because it makes us greener by not having to print so many [coupon books]. It gives us direct access to [Northwestern] University students, because they?re going to help us market it throughout the university. It helps build brand loyalty to Downtown Evanston and it keeps the money local, which helps the tax base. All around it?s a great program.?
