Dr. John Leatherman of K-State Research and Extension provides an overview of the program and describes the activities that take place in Marshall County over the next few months during the evaluation. Leatherman is the facilitator of the planning process.
The Community Engagement process involves a series of meetings ending with a summary of 14 July.
The agenda at the last meeting on Thursday, includes an overview, the economic impact report and draft a directory of health services. Participants shared concerns of the community about the needs of health care.
The Community Engagement process provides a way for members of the community can evaluate its health care system through analysis of reports of the information, according to Leatherman.
"The process is driven by the community with input from health professionals," he said. "It helps the community to identify, exchange ideas and solve problems related to the health sector."
As a result, the process leads to greater use and expansion of local health sector, ensuring its existence in the future, said Leatherman.
The Community Engagement process consists of four reports: the economic impact of the guide, survey, and data and information.
Leatherman distributed the report "The Importance of Health Sector to the Economy of Marshall County."
"The purpose of this report is to provide information resources that can be used to inform community leaders and citizens concerned about the relative importance of health care to the local economy," said Leatherman.
The organization and delivery of health services have grown fast in recent years, he said, and for many Americans, the cost of services and access to care are important issues.
"This is true in many rural areas where communities have struggled to keep the systems affordable, quality health care," said Leatherman.
"As economic forces and technological advances continue to change health is more important than ever that leaders of rural communities and providers of health care to work together to ensure affordable and sustainable systems of health "he said.
The group will collect information from the Community Memorial Healthcare, the Health Department Marshall County and the center of Frankfurt Medical Clinic. The list should include preventive services, nutrition, wellness programs, alternative health, fitness centers, dental care, ophthalmologists and clinics, school
