Hey guys,

Would like to try a Musical Fidelity X10-D line-level in my car to get a more refined audio. It should be installed between head unit pre-outs and amplifier. I need your opinions concerning 2 different points:

First one: Will this idea works great?

Second: The MF X10-D works in 12VAC but car battery delivers 12VDC; is there any kind of tension's transformer or inverter from 12VDC to 12VAC? I'm also considering to use a 12VDC to 110VAC car inverter and after go to a factory power supply from 110VAC to 12VAC

As I do NOT have knowledge about electricity, would like to know if there is this kind of power inverter to sell or if someone here could do it and how much it should cost.

Thank you very much!!
Nilton

My first concern would be the fact that the XD-10 uses vacuum tubes. I'm not sure how they would hold up in an automotive environment, with the inherent vibrations, motion, etc. . . .

Vacuum tubes have long been used in car audio products. See for example Butler and Milbert tube amplifiers and preamplifiers. And, other manufacturers use vacuum tubes in the preamplifier stages of their amplifiers, such as Phass, DLS, Helix. The Musical Fidelity piece, might have to be supported on a well isolated platform, however.

Spkrs. - Phass (DTM25- Tweeter, FD 0590 -Midrange, MD 0875- Midbass); Amps - Phass (RE 4.25 and RE 50). Subwoofer: Custom AudioTechnology FlexUnit 12" powered by TRU B2200S (Op Amp + Cap Upgrades). Head Unit: Eclipse 55090. Processor: Audison Bit One.1; Cables: Phass SC1 Spkr. cable and Si1 Interconnect.

Most units that operate on AC and use walwarts will work on DC.I would take it apart and see if there are diodes connected to the input jack,if so DC will work.

What will you be doing you processing with? Dsp capable amp? Passive crossover?

What type of speaker setup do you have? 2 way component and sub?

Hi,

Well, I decided go to a full analog system, with an old Nakamichi MCT1 cd player, which is supposed to have a Class A pre-amp circuitry; a four channel amp to play a pair of Bohlender Neo8 for highs and a pair of 6.5" DLS Iridum mids with passive crossovers on the fronts.

For deep bass I'm going to use a Morel Elate 10" subwoofer on the rears using the amp active crossover.

After that, if the X10-D plays good, without electrical problems, I'm wondering to use a Musical Fidelity A1 class A amp to play the mids and highs

You could use some highend tube preamps like Milbert TC2R or TC4R
