Our Favorite HD TVs, Bikes, Cameras, and More

Summer's in full swing, and, if we're being really honest with ourselves, everyone's probably praying to the air conditioning gods more than any other tech deity at this point. But man cannot live on air conditioning alone. Plus, June saw some pretty awesome gadgets come our way. Here are the cream of this very, very hot month's gadgety crop.

Death toll in Pakistan attacks climbs to 52

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? Police officials say the death toll from several weekend bombings in Pakistan has climbed to 52 after three victims died overnight from their wounds.

Senior police officer Fayaz Sumbal said two people wounded in an attack on a Shiite Muslim mosque in the southwestern city of Quetta Sunday died Monday, raising the death toll from that incident to 30.

The militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, which has carried out many attacks against Shiites in recent years, claimed responsibility.

In the northwestern city of Peshawar, police officer Abid Khan said one person wounded in an attack on a paramilitary convoy Sunday died in the hospital, raising that death toll to 18.

In the third Sunday incident, four Pakistani soldiers died when a roadside bomb hit their convoy.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - It's a GEMM of a system. Genetically engineered mouse models that is. Using them allows scientists to study cancer in a way that more naturally mimics how human tumors exist within the complex environment of the body.

UNC scientists used GEMMs to develop biomarkers for challenging molecular subtypes of human breast cancer, those for which there are fewer targets and therapies. Their work helps to further establish genetically engineered mouse models as predictors of human response to therapy.

The molecular subtypes of breast cancer that the UNC group focused on basal-like, luminal B, and claudin-low - are the most challenging types of breast cancer because these are tumors that don't typically respond to drugs such as Herceptin or aromatase inhibitors. UNC was among the first to characterize these tumor subtypes, and this new report extends the understanding of them.

The UNC team found that GEMMs were able to accurately predict human response to a standard chemotherapy drug combination commonly used in the clinic.

Charles Perou, PhD, study senior author, says, "This is a wonderful example of how well chosen mouse models can inform a human disease state. In this case we used years of research to match the models to specific human subtypes, and then treated the animals with therapies identical to what human cancer patients are receiving. We were ultimately able to develop a biomarker of treatment response from the mouse that works in humans."

Dr. Perou is the May Goldman Shaw Professor of Molecular Oncology Research and a member of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Their findings were published in the June 19, 2013 online issue of the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

The team developed murine-derived gene signatures that corresponded to a distinct treatment response and then tested their predictive potential using human patient data. Their research tested single agents carboplatin, paclitaxel, erlotinib and lapatinib. Although one single agent exhibited exceptional efficacy, other single agents offered more modest results.

The team identified a pair of gene expression signatures that predicted pathological complete response to neoadjuvant anthracycline (doxorubicin)/taxane (paclitaxel) therapy in human patients with breast cancer, even among the difficult to treat triple negative patient subset.

Traditional mouse model research was conducted using mice without immune systems into which human tumors or cell lines were grafted. In contrast, by manipulating genes in GEMMs scientists are able to observe how cancer develops as it does in humans, in the presence of an immune system, thus making the results more similar to human cancers.

'Parrot dinosaur' walked on all fours, then graduated to two (+video)

New research suggests that Psittacosaurus, China's 'parrot dinosaur,' walked on four feet ? and then two feet.

New research suggests that Psittacosaurus, the 'parrot dinosaur,' walked on four feet ? and then two feet ? some 100 million years ago in what is now China. It would have grown up much like the modern human, at first exploring its world on all fours, like a toddler, and then graduating to upright motion.

Qi Zhao, a Ph.D student at the University of Bristol and a researcher at the Institute for Vertebrate Paleontology in Beijing, studied a total of 16 fossil specimens ranging in from less than 1 year old to 10 years old. He found that the 1-year-old Psittacosaurus?specimens had long arms and short legs, meaning that the toddler dinosaur was biologically equipped to walk on all fours.

The arm bones showed continued growth in the dinosaurs between 1 and 3 years old, but the arm growth was dwarfed when the animal?s legs began to rapidly grow between 4 and 6 years old. At the age of 6, the Psittacosaurus?had legs twice as long as its arms and would have walked upright.?

That discovery, published in the scientific journal Nature Communications,?suggests not only that individual?Psittacosauruses went from four to two legs, but that the species had also evolved over time from four-legged adults to two-legged adults, adapting to environmental pressures.

?Having four-legged babies and juveniles suggests that at some time in their ancestry, both juveniles and adults were also four-legged, and Psittacosaurus and dinosaurs in general became secondarily bipedal,? said Mike Benton, a professor at the University of Bristol.

Measuring dinosaur growth is difficult, since enough samples are seldom available to track the species? development through its life cycle. Psittacosaurus, an herbivore distantly related to Triceratops, is a popular dinosaur for study, given the uniquely wide availability of viable fossils. The dinosaur?s genus includes between nine to 11 species, found in China, Mongolia, Russia, and Thailand.

Building an Opt-In List, Building Relationships - Blog Cash Business

Any entrepreneurs goal should be SUCCESS!

If you aim for success, you must do everything within your means to achieve that. You just dont go on sitting there in your house complaining about not getting as much profit as you expect. You have to keep moving. You have to pour in and invest enough time, money and effort to have profitable results.

In doing internet business, you must aim just the same. You should maximize all of your internet marketing strategies, given the wide market that your business will be exposed to. Imagine the whole online community as potential clients!

Now, one of the best marketing tools that you can use in your online business is building a list. An opt-in list is the best, most effective and smartest option that you can make to make it big. It is one thing to stay in business and it is another thing to have a profitable business. So if you will be allowed to choose, make use of the building list to ensure that profits will keep coming in.

What is an opt-in list?

The opt-in list basically is just a list or a database of names and email ads of people who have visited your website or made a purchase through your website. The listing will allow the owner to send updates, emails or promotions to those who are subscribed.

It is like an ordinary membership or mailing list in an ordinary shop or club, only in this instance, the opt-in list is done online.

Why should I choose to put an opt-in list?

Any visitor that will come to your web site is a potential client. That potential client means there is a potential sale and that potential sale is a potential profit. Now, lets say that youve made a good internet marketing strategy as a result all these potential things have been translated to actual client, sale and profit.

The next prudent thing to do is to not let all these productive efforts be wasted. The next best thing to do is to get the email addresses and other contact details of your clients because your present buyers can still be your clients in the future.

Building a list will definitely work for your benefit. This will ensure that you can maintain close contact and a good relationship with your clients, especially the frequent visitors. This way you will have a regular

This will also save you money, time and effort because once you come up with a new product or new information, you know exactly who you will send updates to because you have a definite market. This is one aspect that you will have to maintain to have a steady source of income at the least. Then the rest of your efforts will be to make the number of your regular clients grow.

Some pointers in building your opt-in list:
1.You should put a subscribe link or subscribe box in your web site. It is advisable to put it on all the pages. Then make sure that it is strategically positioned, meaning it has to be easily located by the visitors. The upper right hand corner of the page would be a good position.

2.Promote your website and promote it even more to make give it more exposure and to get more subscribers.

3.Come up with contests or give away freebies and goodies that will require visitors to give out their email ads to be able to join.

4.Give out information, articles and updates to your clients with your links in it. Make sure that the information will be relevant to the client.

5.Offer free courses to your visitors. This will also help maintain a good relationship with your subscribers.

6.Use your signature also to make your opt-in list expand. Every time you send out messages the link information should be included.

7.Do some networking too. Join some forums or discussions and build relationships with the people there. This way will also be a good way for you to get more contacts and clients.

At the same time you should also know what you should avoid in building an opt-in list. There is one thing that you should keep in mind as the don?t's of building a list.

Don?t ever spam your subscribers. It is best that you get permission from your subscribers, or else you might end up with a bad reputation.

Avoid pop-ups too. They can sometimes annoy the visitors. There are also pop-up blockers now. Your effort here might end up futile.

You should also refrain from flooding your subscribers with information. You might end up as an annoyance that you might not get a favorable result. There may be times that you?ll give relevant information, but your clients may just dismiss it.

The benefits of having many regular subscribers are undeniable. They will definitely keep your business going and you will definitely enjoy the profits that will come in. Just remember that things dont end there.

Once youve build up on a substantial opt-in list, make sure that you maintain it well. Keep in contact with your subscribers. Send them updates. Give out special offers and helpful tips. Freebies will be helpful too.

Just follow this and youll see, things can only get better.

Pallbearers carry the casket of Odin LLoyd following a funeral ceremony at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Boston Saturday. Hundreds of relatives, friends and well-wishers wept together and hugged at the funeral for LLoyd, a semi-pro football player whose killing led to murder and weapons charges against former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.

Ernest Wallace, who is suspected of being an "accessory after the fact" in the killing of?Odin?Lloyd, 27, a semi-pro football player, turned himself in to police in Miramar, Florida, a local police official said.

Hernandez was charged with?Lloyd's murder and fired by the New England Patriots football team on Wednesday.

On Friday, Germany's Puma said it had canceled its two-year sponsorship deal with Hernandez. The world's third-largest sporting goods company had announced the agreement in April.

The Patriots said on Friday that the team's pro shop would allow people to exchange Hernandez jerseys for a new Patriot jersey of comparable value.

"We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don't want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore," New England Patriots spokesman Stacey James said in a statement.

Prosecutors have said that Hernandez shot?Lloyd?execution-style after becoming upset with him days earlier at a Boston nightclub.?Lloyd's body was found June 17 near Hernandez's house in North Attleborough, about 40 miles (64 km) south of Boston.

Miramar Police Officer Gil Bueno said Wallace, who lives in the south Florida town, had turned himself in on an outstanding arrest warrant, and that Massachusetts would have to make arrangements to extradite him.

Massachusetts State Police spokesman Lieutenant Daniel Richard confirmed Wallace's arrest in Florida but declined to discuss any details.

Connecticut prosecutors said on Thursday that they had arrested another man, Carlos Ortiz, in connection with the case and charged him with being a fugitive from justice. He has been transferred to Massachusetts to face additional charges.

Hernandez's lawyer, Michael Fee, has entered a not guilty plea on his client's behalf and has called the prosecution's case circumstantial.

Hernandez was a rising football star who was signed to a $41 million contract as tight end for one of the National Football League's top teams.
